Collard Greens and Artistic Scenes: Pensacola Women's Stories. An exhibit detailing Pensacola Women's Stories from the 1930s, three public lectures/panels, and two workshops on collecting oral histories. $24,987 Diamond Teeth Mary, a play with music. Public programs and free performances of a play on the life of Diamond Teeth Mary (Mary Smith McClain). $26,677 "A Killing in Choctaw: The Power of Forgiveness" Racial Reconciliation through Forgiveness. Two historical presentations and public lectures deal with the topic of violence in Southern race relations in the post-WWII era. $6,600 Folkvine II: Florida's Cultural Story in Website and Public Programs. Florida folk artists in their environments and communities will be captured in public programs and a website. $25,400 Humanities: The Culture of Poverty in Central Florida, Phase III: The Prometheus Project. This project expands access of a college-level humanities program to economically and educationally disadvantaged out-of-school adults. $23,566 Catfish, Moonshine and Cattle on the Peavine: Surviving on Florida's Last Frontier. A traveling exhibit and related public programs on the topic of the life and work of Florida pioneer families in the Central Florida region. $19,280 Florida Folklife Area - New Communities. Funding supports the folklife area of the Florida Folk Festival to expand awareness of the traditonal arts and crafts of cultures new to Florida. $8,000 Sunshine Senior Center of St. Petersburg. An oral history program with veterans that will be crafted into a presentation using audio, video, and printed word. $8000 Miami Light Project, Miami. A photographic exhibit "Swamp Cabbage: An Expoloration of Cracker Culture in a Fast Food Nation," will accompany panel discussions on Cracker food and culture. $19,000. University of Central Florida, Orlando. A community-wide commemoration of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision and its legacy in Orange County. $34,474. Neighborhood Improvement Corporation of Bartow, Inc., Bartow. The 4th Annual L.B. Brown Heritage Festival will bring African American scholars to this program. $10,000. City of Panama City Florida. The St. Andrews Waterfront Project creates a display kiosk examining the activities of the early people of the area. $2000 Mujeres Latinas Impulsando Mujeres Latinas, Weston. Club de Lecura is a reading discussion program for Spanish language speakers facilitated by discussion leader. $2000 Edison Community College, Punta Gorda. This grant supports a weeklong series of activities commemorating victims of the Holocaust. $2000 Florida Gulf Coast University, Ft Myers. Two symposia on the Ethics of Sustainability brings scholars to address the ethical and literary perspectives. $2000 Columbia County Historical Museum, Lake City. This grant allows historical re-enactors to work with a historian to gather historical research and documentation. $2000 Jacksonville Public Library Foundation, Jacksonville. One City, One Book creates a Reader's Theater presentation for target audiences that may not be familiar with the concept of book discussions. $2500 Perdido Bay Tribe of Muscogee Creek Indians, Pensacola. The Life Ways Booklet is printed and distributed to educate about the Muscogee Creek Indians. $2000 African American Heritage Society, Pensacola. This project brings Dr. Walter J. Leonard, former president of Fisk University, to discuss the landmark Brown vs. Board decision and its legacy. $2000 LaBelle Heritage Museum, LaBelle. This project engages a scholar to create several living history scripts for presentation by the LaBelle Firehouse Players. $2000 African American Performing Arts Community Theatre, Miami. A post-performance scholar-facilitated dialogue follows the performance of "Riff Raff." $2000 Tigertail Productions, Miami. Four post-concert discussions engage the audiences in the cultural heritage components of the Asian dance performances. $2000 Amelia Book Island Festival, Amelia Island. A scholar-led panel discussion with noted environmental writers is a component of the Amelia Island Book Festival. $2000 Central Florida Society of the Archeological Institute of America, Winter Park. A creative interpretation of a historical event based on the Ft. Matanzas' massacre is developed and presented. $2000 Family Services International, Crescent City. This project funds the first festival celebrating the legacy of A. Philip Randolph "father of the modern civil rights movement" and his Crescent City, FL roots. $2000 Stetson University DuPont-Ball Library, DeLand. This project brings two very different presenters to DeLand for programs related to the NEH Frankenstein Exhibit. $2000 Ormond Beach Historical Trust, Ormond Beach. An annual series of historic lectures and tours sponsored brings local history scholars to public programs. $2000 Dunedin Public Library. A series of public programs focusing on the subject of baseball and the many connections to American popular culture will feature texts, films, panel discussions. $3000 Matheson Museum. A series of 5 programs highlighting the history and heritage of Alachua County will cover topics that include: the Sacred Steel Tradition, the Finnish Community, the Female Protective Society, the History of Baseball, and World War II. $3000 Lake Wales Library Association, Inc. This celebration of Black History Month combines music, art, and culture of the African American experience and features the art work of Clementine Hunter. $3000 Sarasota Reading Festival. The annual Sarasota Reading Festival hosts a panel discussion of authors which is focused on a topical subject in the humanities. $3000 African American Heritage Society. This annual program features African American history through the use of poetry, song, dance, and prose with narration that "teaches history in a new way." $3000 Kingsley Plantation Timucuan Preserve National Park Service. The Kingsley Plantation staff host an annual full-day program to introduce the public to the history and heritage of the site. $3000 Friends Of The Caribbean. A series of film showings and scholar-led discussions that focus on films of Africa and the African Diaspora will begin in Sept and conclude in April. $3000 Winter Park Historical Association. The Winter Park Historical Association will research, design and print a Heritage Site Map for distribution at the annual Culture and Heritage Festival in April 2005. $3000 African American Performing Arts Community Theatre, Inc. The African American Performing Arts Community Theatre will stage a production of "Once on this Island" at the Liberty Square Public Housing Community Center. $3000 Trail of the Lost Tribes. A third year of archaeology programs which include 6 sites and an accompanying map features stories buried in the ground. $18,000 Loxahatchee River Historical Society. This grant proposes to develop an exhibit on the African American heritage of the Jupiter area and sponsor related public programs.$24,840 Bass Museum Of Art. In conjunction with an NEH funded exhibit, this project proposes a series of panel discussions on the topic of architecture, urban planning and popular culture. $25,000 City Of Plantation. Interpretive site tours and signs are proposed to introduce the public to the historical relationship that human beings have had over time with the ecological, anthropological, and political history of South Florida. $6,053 Clewiston Museum. This proposal seeks support for consultant fees and materials for curation work and exhibit design. $25,000 Central Florida Community College. A collaboration between the CFCC and community organizations proposes a series of community forums on issues that impact the lives of women throughout the world. $12,873 Black Archives, History & Research Foundation of South Florida, Inc. A collaborative project between Miami's Black Archives and Bard College proposes the establishment of a Bard College Clemente Course in the Humanities to serve educationally and economically disadvantaged adults. $25,000 City of Fort Pierce Historic Preservation Board. Building on the successful "Zora Neale Hurston Heritage Trail," this project requests funding to create a "Highwayman Heritage Trail" and public programs to accompany the installation. $24,900 Neighborhood Leadership Initiative. A series of public programs is proposed featuring the story of Angola, a farming settlement on the lower Gulf Coast which was comprised of escaped slaves, free blacks and Seminoles. $14,935 Florida Institute for Community Studies. This grant proposes a community history and cultural preservation project which involves research, collection, and presentation of community history through public forums and exhibits. $15,745 Congress for the New Urbanism, Boca Raton. The "Guidebook to New Urbanism in Florida" will be updated and published for distribution. $2000 St. Pete Beach Library, St Pete Beach. A series of programs to commemorate the rich baseball history of the Pinellas County beaches. $2000 Pinellas County African American History Museum Inc., Clearwater. In conjunction with an exhibit on Brown v. Board a public forum, oral histories and historical guide. $2000 Institute of Black Culture, Gainesville. A weekly forum series and a culminating panel discussion on the impact of the Brown v. Board decision. $1400 Southwest Florida Archaeological Society, Naples. A symposium on the development and political fragmentation of the Calusa Indians. $2000 Friends of North Indian River County Library, Sebastian. A series of four programs on Florida history. $1214 Charlotte County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, Port Charlotte. A creative integration of humanities and the environment though nature walks and poetry readings. $2000 Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, Clearwater. A countywide reading program featuring Patrick Smith's "A Land Remembered" will include the development and printing of a reading guide. $2000 Citrus County Historical Society, Inverness. Recording and preserving of oral histories of pre-World War II residents of Citrus County and a public program. $2000 Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, Valparaiso. The documentation through oral histories of the integration of public schools in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. $2000 Salvador Dali Museum, Saint Petersburg. A series of scholar-led talks on the impact of the avant guard movement on a variety of disciplines. $2000 Ybor City Museum Society, Inc., Tampa. An exhibit and panel discussion on Ybor City's Radical Press. $2000 St Lucie County Cultural Affairs Council, Fort Pierce. The opening program for a weekend festival honoring Zora Neale Hurston. $2000 Okeechobee County Public Library, Okeechobee. A series of four programs featuring Florida history and culture. $2000 Volusia County Bar Association, Port Orange.
