Teacher Grants
The FHC Teacher grants are awarded only to teachers who participated in a Florida Center for Teachers (FCT) program, within two years of the grant deadline and who are currently teaching in a Florida school. Please note: application period for 2007 is now over.
Proposed projects must focus on the subject matter of the FCT seminar the teacher/applicant attended, and projects must be completed by the end of the school year.
While the projects may cover a broad range of disciplines, formats, and grade levels, FHC encourages projects that:
- actively and centrally engage humanities scholars
- be based in a discipline of the humanities and employ the methods of the humanities-critical thinking, analysis and interpretation
- engage multiple teachers and/or classrooms
- use a cross-disciplinary approach.
Budget items may include: humanist honoraria and travel (academic scholar, Chautauqua presenter, or writer), texts, films, or other classroom resources. Budgets may not include refreshments, equipment purchases, or compensation for the teacher.
An evaluation is required within 30 days following completion of the project.

Part I:
The sponsoring organization may be a school, school district, or education foundation. Award checks will be made to the sponsoring organization for distribution in accordance with the proposed budget. No sponsoring organization may have more than one open grant.
Part II:
In two double-spaced pages or less, describe your proposed project. Include:
- Target audience: Students, and/or faculty, and how many participants
- Describe the content of the project: Tell us about the activities and timeline, how it will benefit the participants, how it relates to Florida and the humanities
- Outcomes: Tell us what you intend to accomplish and the potential impact of your project
Part III:
Provide a budget indicating how you intend to use the funds.
Deadlines
- Proposals must be received by 5 pm October 1st.
- Award recipients will be notified by October 15th.
- Projects must be completed by June 1st.
