Mini Grants

Mini Grants offer community and civic organizations that are interested in sponsoring a humanities program a way to access the FHC grant program.  Any nonprofit organization is eligible to apply for a Mini Grant of up to $2,000.  Your project may explore any number of topics but must engage a humanities scholar and result in a public program for the adult general public. The format may vary (lecture with question-and-answer period, mini-exhibit, workshop, book or film discussion, panel discussion, etc.).

Proposals are reviewed three times a year. Deadlines are January 20, April 20, and October 20.  No organization will be eligible for a second grant if they already have an open grant. No organization may receive more than two grants in any twelve-month period.  Organizations are discouraged from requesting funding from more than one FHC program related to the same project.

Application With Instructions

To apply for funding:

  1. Complete the cover sheet. Download: Word Doc | Adobe PDF
  2. Attach it to your proposal for a total of no more that four pages.
  3. Include the résumé of your humanities scholar(s)
  4. Mail three copies so they arrive by the deadline.

In your proposal, include the following information:

  • What do you want to do?  Why is this project needed?  When and where will it take place?
  • Which humanities discipline(s) is/are the focus of your project?
  • Who is/are your humanities scholar(s)?  What is the scholar’s role in your project?
  • Who is your targeted audience?  How will you reach them?  Have members of that audience had a role in the planning of your project?
  • What are the objectives of the project?  How will you evaluate your outcomes?
  • What is your sponsoring organization's contribution (cash and/or in-kind must total 100% of the FHC funds requested) to the project?  And how will FHC funds be spent?
  • Attach your scholar’s résumé(s).
  • Attach a budget

Please note:

  1. All FHC-funded programs must be free and open to the public.
  2. Confirmation of your scheduled program is required prior to disbursement of funds.
  3. Sponsor cost share must be verified prior to disbursement of final grant payment.
