Teacher Programs
As part of our mission to build strong communities and informed citizens, FHC’s Teachers Center invests in the professional development of Florida teachers through experiential summer seminars, “Humanities in Schools” programs, and the creation of on-line classroom resources for educators.
Offering graduate-level content to outstanding K-12 teachers, media specialists, guidance counselors, and administrators, all FHC teacher programs correlate directly to the Sunshine State Standards, while offering rigorous study of fascinating humanities topics with noted scholars. Programs include:
Summer Seminars FHC’s summer seminars offer participants the unique opportunity to engage in an intensive exploration of a curriculum-relevant humanities topic through field trips, readings, lectures, discussions, films, and cultural experiences. The seminars provide a collegial forum for teachers to exchange ideas and strategies with their peers and distinguished professors during a five-day program with meals, materials, and lodging provided at no cost to participants. Humanities in Schools FHC makes humanities speakers and programs available to your school or district year-round through teacher grants, full-day district-based programs designed and implemented by FHC, and a speakers bureau currently under design. Click here for more information.
Teaching American History Partnerships FHC’s Teachers Center has successfully partnered with school districts across Florida on a variety of Teaching American History (T.A.H.) programs. FHC can act as a partner in the initial grant application, pledging to provide intellectually rigorous professional development programs upon the successful award of the T.A.H grant. Or, FHC can provide custom-designed programs to districts that are current recipients of T.A.H grants. Click here for sample agendas, testimonials from past T.A.H. partners, and contact information.
Resources for Teachers FHC strives to create useful resources on Florida humanities topics for K-12 teachers, including websites and other classroom materials. Click here to explore FHC’s teacher resources page.
