Tallahassee Festival of Books & Writers Conference

Scholars will each present a 15-minute speech on "Telling It Like it Was: Writing About Historical Conflict," followed by a 15-minute audience question/answer period on the importance of writing about historical conflicts. The panel will be moderated by history professor Neil Jumonville. Rodney Hurst will talk about his memoir, " It Never Was About a Hotdog and a Coke," and his stand against racism when he was only 15 years old. Claudia Hunter Johnson will discuss her book "Stifled Laughter, One Woman's Fight About Censorship," and her experiences standing up against book banning by a small town school board. Jeff Shaara, author of "Gods and Generals," will talk about writing historical fiction. Before and after the event, there will be hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The discussion panels are part of a day-long book festival Saturday with author readings and book signings, new and used book sales, arts and crafts, and street magicians For more information, visit www.tallahasseewriters.net.
