How Segeration Affected Who Could Use the Parks

The second in a series of performances and panel discussions celebrating the centennial anniversary of the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront parks, a sweep of parkland stretching more than 20 blocks. The program will look back on the how the history of segregation in St. Petersburg affected who could use its downtown waterfront parks and what happened in the waterfront parks as segregation, at least, overtly, was ending. The panel includes noted historian Dr. Raymond Aresnault of USF-St. Petersburg, former St. Petersburg resident Jacqueline Hubbard and present resident Jim Oliver.

The panel discussion will be preceded by a short performance of songs by Sharon Scott, widely acclaimed for her role last fall portraying the queen of gospel singers, Mahalia Jackson.
